£25 an hour or £20 per track

how much time do you usually spend on a track?

The hourly rate is used to quote for job which isn't track based, for example I work on a lot of hardcore punk/lofi garage punk type music. They generally have recordings done in a single session, with exactly the same levels and more than likely mixed in the same session, it wouldn't be fair to charge per track for a 22 track grindcore album of 30 second long songs. So I created an hourly rate for CD and vinyl pre-masters of this kind.

The track by track rate is used mostly for dance music producers doing EPs or single tracks, which arrive from different sessions, with different sounds/levels/techniques used within the session, so these are charged as single small jobs. That said an EP of tracks by the same producer will have sonic connections (in most cases, not all), therefore I will provide a price break for more than 4 tracks.

I realise it's slightly confusing, and I wish I could find a system that works for both worlds, but my two main markets differ a lot in how I build a quotation, if I was to charge by the hour for everything, the dance music guys couldn't calculate how much a job will cost to work out whether I'm good value, and on the flipside, I'd lose custom from the punk/DIY guys if I had to charge for every single track, even though the mastering settings are most likely going to be the same.


How long does it take to master a track? between 20 minutes and an hour an half usually, depends on a lot of things, that's a "piece of string question" really. You have factor in also that my processing is analogue and therefore all recording is done in real time, so however long the track is, I have to sit and listen to it recording back in, and then once again to check for errors.

Hourly: This is for clients who require a CD master or are mastering a compiled release (Album, EP, CD Single etc.). These releases require tonal consistency and levelling accross the release, as well as track order / fades / etc. This requires more time and a different workflow by the engineer.

This is charged at a standard rate of £25 an hour. Time spent on the project is quoted based on the brief of your project, see our contact page about getting in touch.

NB: If you require a vinyl pre-master for cutting elsewhere, please specify this in your enquiry so we can provide 24 bit exports.


Individual Track(s): This service is for clients requiring a track, or a few tracks, mastered which aren't compiled as a CD or Vinyl release. If you use CDJs or Serato to play out in clubs or online, or you need to get your recent work mastered to send to labels and DJs, this service if for you.

This is charged at a standard rate of £20 per track. If you have a collection of 4 or more songs, which are not compiled as a release, please email for discounted rates!
