The New Soundcloud

Postby Stealth Elf » Mon May 21, 2012 10:03 pm

Thought I may as well do the honours and start a thread for the new/beta version of Souncloud.

I don't even have the energy to list all the things wrong with it right now but lemme just say they seem to have taken out a lot of what made Souncloud great for artists and made it into some sort of streamlined twitter service :\

we could make a list, im planning to give a detailed advice, cuz i have some issues, and definitely wont pay for it if they wont change it back
this is just after few hours:
- no spotlight page
- some of the urls disappeared from my public page
- everything is waaaay too big, no offence but im not visually impaired
- also dont like that the comments are not listed under the track, so i cannae see all of dem

This new layout is clearly geared towards the listener and not the uploader.

I've left lots of feedback on the beta so far, including the sets issue. Reposting a tune, then that tunbe is on your profile and nudges your tunes down? I mean surely they dont have to be on your profile? just posted to your stream...

if anyone is wondering this is what the new profile looks like:

Ahhh, I just got put in a queue for this, really not sure I want it now that I see all the negative things about it
Isn't there a way you can revert back to the old layout if you don't like it?

You can return to classic mode by pressing H and clicking the link on the top left.

Not forever though, at some point this will be the only option for everyone.

I even dislike the black waveform display... Looks like a moustache-comparison website.

I like that you can see everyone online instead of just the first 8 or 10 whatever it was. but you cant switch between following, followers and groups as easily i don't think. They should also just let you scroll that recent activity box at the bottom instead of going to another page or make it both. Profiles are just alright too, I'll get used to it quick though. At least you can see who you are following in common, kinda neat. I'll probably just keep it like this for a while before switching back to old, not like i get much activity anyways.

also SO STUPID that you cant post a comment when listening to a set on your stream but a regular tune you can.

I only appear to have half a profile page.

Have all the links to external social media sites been removed? I cant see any and I like to use facebook to promote the shows with tagging artists and stuff (as I'm sure a few of you are aware)

being able to navigate whilst a track is still playing is definitely cool though

It's a bit annoying, that i have to go next.soundcloud, click on try the next sc, and "Allow “The Next SoundCloud” access to your SoundCloud account" every time i log in and wanna test the beta (tbh it's not something i wanna do too often), must be cuz i dont keep cookies.

Wow it's been a few days now and I still haven't been converted to beta.
Maybe this is a sign I should just stick with the old profile!!! :o

things i like:
- overall look of the site
- real-time notifications
- "common users" feature
(plus what mentioned above)

things i dont like:
- everything is too big. No offence but it's like a version for a visually impaired person
- most of the urls are missing
- can't comment on sets in stream, also can't see the track's titles and the comments already posted. Superannoying
- can't see the comments listed below the track. Also superannoying
- no "exclusives" tab in the stream

despite all the problems i've started to enjoy, i switched back to old to look at something and decided i'd rather be in the beta still. Not as bad I thought and they've added some stuff I think.
